Third job: Fireman

The fireman is responsible for preserving the threatened heritage of destruction by fire fighting to rescue victims of drowning, fires and accidents, research on the origin of the fire (skills) and public awareness regarding security measures to prevent fires.

To exercise this profession (requirements vary according to the state of the federation) is normally required to be Brazilian, have at least 18 years, owning a portfolio of reservist (for men) and have completed high school. In relation to height, it is required that man has height from 1.65m and 1.60m for women. Usually it requested that the candidate is single and that, in any way, has a criminal record. It is recommended that the candidate can swim and drive.

The firefighter must have a good physical fitness, emotional balance to solve all kinds of situations and desire to serve the people saving lives. In addition, this professional must have quick thinking; physical endurance; discipline; courage; leadership; good health; ability to work in teams, to work under pressure, not to be shaken when faced with rough and bloody people, to decide and carry out orders.

The salary of firefighters is set by state governments and the Federal District. Overall, the adjustments are applied the same percentage determined for the military police. In Rio de Janeiro, they practice the lowest wage: a little over $ 1,000, against R $ 3,500 received by his colleagues at the Federal District.

The professional course firefighter is taught by private schools or the fire departments of the federation units. In addition to the specific training, with techniques on fire classes, temperature points, fire spread, individual equipment and combat, combat tactics, search and rescue, risk analysis, abandonment of the area, students are also trained in methods pre-hospital care (rescue and first aid to the victims).


The course applies regular reviews and, after the end of the six months of lessons, to students who have are sent to a testing ground, with practical simulations of different situations that may arise on the professional day of the new firefighters.

Whatever the salary range, the firefighter has ensured the risk premium of 30% of the monthly salary. This calculation are not counted bonuses, prizes or participation in the company's profits.
